My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of yesterday’s tornadoes across several Southeast states. My home State of TN was mercifully spared any loss of lives. However, at least 20 homes were badly damaged or destroyed.

“It’s mind-boggling to think about what could possibly be in there,” said Kim Greenwood, state scientist with the Vermont Natural Resources Council.
“Most Vermonters would never think I should pour my antifreeze in the brook, or my latex paint or my chain saw oil. The person who cares least about the environment would never dump this stuff in. But we’ve inadvertently dumped the worst from our households into (streams).”

West and Middle Tennessee felled victims to a flood that was in May, 2010 from a stalled frontal system and warm, moist air that came up from the Gulf of Mexico. Nashville, alone, had a record-breaking rainfall totalling 13.57 inches the first two days of May. We were totally unprepared.
A flood that is, and is to come, the slowing slowly moving Tropical Depression Lee is predicted to bring rainfall totals of up to 6 to 10 inches over the next few days. A slow steady rain had already fallen the past several hours on Sunday. It won’t take much to begin seeing flooded areas before Lee finally moves its way out on Wednesday. Hopefully, it will not be anything like 2010. But it will behoove us to Be Ready!
