Our nation’s discourse on contraception, abortion, and health care mandates has risen to a level where accusations of deceit and being called a ’woman-hater’ have taken over, and even the youngest of minds are left wondering, “What about the issues of STD’s, rape and incest, and sex trafficking of children and teens?” Need I say that these issues are the results of humans unable to take responsibility for their actions and their failure to use self-discipline? Yes, we’ve all heard it before. So why don’t these issues stay in the national spotlight, as well?

There is a bigger issue in this contraception and health care mandate debate and it would behoove the American people to wake up and pay attention. If you’re going to be outraged at someone or something make darn sure you know all the facts. Do your research.

Consider what Fluke had to say to CNN’s reporter Dana Bash:

“For starters, I didn’t say that I should be paid for anything. What we were talking about is private insurance covering a medical need. It has nothing to do with the government paying for anything or taxpayers or anything like that,” she said. (emphasis is mine)

She then went on to say:

“We’re talking about national legislation. Legislation has to reflect reality, not ideology and I don’t think that we can actually expect that American women are going to stop engaging in healthy sexual behaviors,” Fluke said. (emphasis is mine)

So which coverage does she want? One for a real medical need or coverage for ”healthy sexual behaviors”?

I would suggest that a “healthy sexual behavior” consisted of mature men and women in monogamous marital relationships having protected sex if they don’t intend to have children. Since this doesn’t always reflect reality either I wonder why it’s even in our national discourse for health care coverage. Isn’t it time to reframe the discussion, maybe even changing the name from contraception to a broader term? By doing so, would it cut down on confusing the issues of medical needs with ”healthy sexual behaviors”?

Once again the real issues are still left silenced  -  the need for significant penalties for Rape and Incest, Human Sexual Trafficking, and the mis-education on the continuing rise in STD cases. And, lest we forget, the government’s continuous desire to impose laws upon the freedoms and beliefs of institutions and individuals.
