With the convenience of 24/7/365 news service on radio, television, smartphones, iPad and what have you, I get sick of hearing the same “news” recycled and rehashed over and over again because they usually make me angry.
News stories on legislating abortion using our tax dollars, gay rights, politicians unable to balance the budget, people offended by religious traditions, celebrity mishaps, rumors of wars, and political stories that try to pit one group of people against another. The list goes on, and on, and on. They’re like soap operas. You can tune in at any time and pick up where you left off.
Remember the little boy and his dad on the Hanes sock commercial when they said, “Sick of it”? Yeah, that’s me, too!! Thankfully, I’m now weaning myself off the television.
This post was inspired by a Plinky prompt, “Are there any news stories you’re sick of hearing about?”

You and I are a lot alike. :0)
Nice to meet you, Jane. Thanks for stopping in. Hope to see you again.
I lurk around here regularly. :0)
I agree. Sometimes I feel like saying “Don’t bring me no more bad news.”
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
My words exactly!!! There was a time recently when my local news station texted me about every vehicle accident that happened. The thought of people hurt or killed, little children stuck in traffic with their parents, cars running out of gas, etc.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Blessings to you, as well!
I prefer reading news on the internet, taht way I can choose what’s important or not and I don’t have to read about all the nonsense that they are publishing.
For a long period I only read news through different blogs. That was a relief!
I totally agree. I went to reading too. But lately I’m so fed up with the news that all I can stand is snippets here and there. Now when I start hitting the late night talk shows and comedy channels for news then you can stick a fork in me cause – I’m done with it!!
I’ve not watched the news or read a newspaper (aside from quick glances here and there) for many years…..and you are right it doesn’t change. But not watching changed me and the stress load on me.
I agree, but I want to at least be informed…although to be so is a lot of work. I listen to a lot of BBC feeds and then I podcast feeds from other places to hear “talk” from a wider region and greater information pools. I can still get over-saturated, but I guess in the end I at least find it more interesting. And then, when I’m “full” I just unplug! It’s a lot of work to remain balanced sometimes
Debra
I hear you…
