Granddaughter: (phone conversation) Hi Grandma!
Me: Hi Sweetheart! How are you doing?
Granddaughter: Good! We’re going out to eat in a few minutes.
Me: Good. I’m glad to hear it, Sunshine. (sings “You are my Sunshine”) How is school? Do you still have the same friends from your last class?
Granddaughter: Yes. Some of my old friends are still in my class.
Me: Well, that’s good!
Granddaughter: Grandma! You know what?
Me: What, Sunshine?
Granddaughter: Mommy’s birthday is tomorrow!
Me: It is!?! (forgot all about it.)
Granddaughter: Yes, she’s gonna be __.
Me: Oh, she’s an old woman, then. (chuckling)
Granddaughter: (chuckling) She tells us she’s only 21. But she’s not…
Me: Well, that’s ok. I guess she can be 21. Grandma is 12.
Granddaughter: (loud chuckling, she tells her parents what I said) Grandma’s 12. (more chuckling)
Me: Hey, Sweetie, I’m going to call your mommy tomorrow and wish her a Happy Birthday. Don’t tell her, ok?
Granddaughter: Ok…
Me: Let it be a surprise.
Granddaughter: Ok…Grandma? You know what I think of when I talk to you on the phone?
Me: What Sweetie?
Granddaughter: Skype! We were going to Skype you yesterday.
Me: Wonderful! I’m so glad you’re going to start Skyping me. Are you and your brother performing another show?
Granddaughter: (quiet) Don’t know…
Me: That’s okay, Sunshine. Just Skype me and we’ll talk. If you don’t get the chance to do it when you come back in from eating, Skype me tomorrow, ok?
Granddaughter: Ok…Love you, Grandma.
Me: Love you too, Sweetheart!

I was one happy Grandma. Seems like forever when we talked about Skype but never got around to it. I didn’t want to keep pressuring them. So glad they are taking the initiative to stay in touch this way. God bless their hearts… ♥
UPDATE: National Grandparents Day is Sept. 11, 2011. If you have plans to spend time with your grandchild/ren on that day, what are they? Please share…

That’s great, Louise. I’m sure it makes her very happy to have the opportunity to not only talk to them but to actually see them at the same time. Wow!
